Tournament Guidelines
Please review the guidelines below before registering for the Asenso Ozamiz Pickleball Tournament.
1Eligibility
- All entries are subject to a qualification review before a slot is confirmed.
- Players must register for the category that matches their true skill level. Sandbagging (registering below your level) may lead to disqualification.
- Each player may compete in a category once per division. A valid government-issued ID showing address is required.
- Double entry is not allowed — a player may only register for one category.
- Novice, Beginner, and Intermediate Categories: Players must be 18 years old or above.
- Intermediate Category: Players who placed on the podium in an Open Category, or who were champions in the Intermediate Category in the previous year, are not eligible to play.
- Beginner Category: Players who have been champions in any Beginner Category tournament in the previous year are not allowed to play in the Beginner Category.
- Beginner Category: Players who placed on the podium in Open 35+ or Open 45+ are not allowed to play in the Beginner Category.
- Novice Category: Players must not have been a champion in the Novice Category in the previous year. The committee reserves the right to evaluate a player's skill level.
- The tournament committee reserves the right to screen a player's skill level and decide whether they are eligible to play in their selected category.
2Format & Schedule
- This is a doubles tournament — every team is made up of two players (Player A & Player B).
- Matches follow a round-robin and/or single-elimination bracket as determined by the number of qualified teams.
- Teams must check in at least 30 minutes before their scheduled match. A 5-minute grace period applies; failure to appear results in a forfeit.
- The organizing committee reserves the right to adjust the schedule, brackets, or format as needed.
3Rules of Play
- Games follow the official USA Pickleball / IFP rules unless otherwise stated by the organizers.
- Matches are played to 11 points, win by serve. Medal and final matches may be played to 15, win by serve.
- A serve that clips the net and still lands in the correct service court is live and in play (no let) — only a serve that fails to clear the net or the non-volley zone line is a fault.
- Your momentum after a volley cannot carry you into the non-volley zone (kitchen). Touching the kitchen or its line while still carrying momentum is a fault, even if the ball is already dead.
- A ball landing on any boundary line is 'in' — except on the serve, where a ball touching the non-volley zone line is a fault.
4Equipment & Attire
- Players must use paddles approved by USA Pickleball / IFP standards.
- Official tournament balls will be provided for all sanctioned matches.
- Appropriate athletic attire and non-marking court shoes are required. The provided tournament shirt should be worn during matches when issued.
5Conduct & Fair Play
- Players are expected to display good sportsmanship at all times.
- Referees' and tournament officials' decisions are final.
- Abusive language, unsportsmanlike behavior, or arguing with officials may result in penalties or disqualification.
- Line calls on your side of the court are your responsibility — call them honestly and promptly.
6Registration & Payment
- Registration is confirmed only after qualification and payment of the applicable category fee.
- Once your team is qualified, you'll receive payment instructions via text message or email.
- Fees are non-refundable once a slot is confirmed, except when a category is cancelled by the organizers.
- Submitting false or incomplete information may void your registration.
7Liability & Media
- Players participate at their own risk. The organizers are not liable for injuries, loss, or damage incurred during the event.
- By registering, players consent to the use of photos and video taken during the tournament for promotional purposes.
- The organizing committee reserves the right to amend these guidelines at any time.
